Colt built the King Cobra to compete with the 686/586. The Python is more of a custom gun with a lot of fine tuning and was not as durable as the 686/586. Also, back when Colt made Pythons and King Cobras the 686/586 was a 6-shot revolver as well. S&W came out with the 7-shot later Finally, our impatience was rewarded when, earlier this year, Colt released the 6″ and 4.25″ Pythons. Top to bottom: 2020 Python 6″, 4.25″, New Colt King Cobra (image courtesy JWT for thetruthaboutguns.com) I got on the order train as fast as I could, asking for both a 6″ and 4.25″ gun from my distributor
Introduced in 1955, the Python was deemed by Colt as a 'premium revolver'. It competed directly with Smith & Wesson's Model 29. Both wheel guns were chambered in .357 Magnum/.38 Special The model 27's tend to run a little more. Most people look to run the K or L frame 6 in competitions but in 357 the prices are climbing. The L frame 357 will have a full under lug that helps with follow up shots. now there are allot of built k frame competition guns in .38 available for under 1000.00 . This intermediate size of a 4.25″ barrel gives shooters the potential to carry it as a sidearm, and simultaneously take it to the range for competitions as the Target name implies
The contemporary King Cobra only comes in a 3-inch barrel. This is, once again, due to the market segment Colt is going after. With a .357 Magnum, I would have much preferred a 4-inch gun. With most rounds, the .357 Magnum takes a pretty steep dive in the velocity and corresponding energy department in short barrels Colt King Cobra Target. It made sense for the 4 ¼ barrel, now. A longer barrel would definitely throw off the balance of the revolver. The frame and barrel are forged from stainless steel
How does the new King Cobra hold up with continuous magnum rounds compared to say a S&w 686? I know the Python was recently released and I'm curious to see if it'll hold up even better than a king cobra due to a larger and more beefy frame The Colt King Cobra was the sixth of seven snake revolvers produced by Colt beginning with the Cobra (1950-1981) and ending with the Python (1955-2005). Other revolvers slithering up from the pit were the Diamondback (1966-1988), the Viper (1977), the Boa (1985), and the Anaconda (1990-1999) Colt's Manufacturing Company - firearms, handguns, pistols, rifles, revolvers
You can read my review of the Colt King Cobra Target by following this link and the reintroduction of the Cobra by following this link. While we were able to spend much of the day with the new four and a quarter inch and six-inch Python, I requested a test revolver once I got home so I could have plenty of time getting to know the 2020 Python Colt King Cobra Target vs Ruger GP100. Who wins this fight? On the table today I have a Colt King Cobra Target and a Ruger GP100. These are very similar guns. For a 4 target gun, it really depends on which model Colt. Python > King Cobra Target. But I've heard that the grips on both could be improved for a range piece. The King Cobra Target is a closer direct comparison to the Kimber K6S, but the Python would be considerably better in every metric of performance
The reboot of the Colt Python has somewhat overshadowed the King Cobra in the public's eye. Nevertheless, it does little to diminish the snub-nose .357 Magnum revolver's performance in its main role—on person self-defense piece. Plus, it's a Colt Snake Gun, with is inherently cool Today's video is my first look at the Colt King Cobra Target. These were just released and I picked it up the other day. It's a quick unboxing and my first imp..
When the King Cobra's hammer fell, the trigger ran into a brick wall at exactly the same time. The Colt's trigger had an adjustment screw for this, accessible via an Allen wrench on the underside of the trigger itself. The Colt King Cobra's barrel-to-cylinder gap was 0.005 inch, and its single-action (SA) pull was 4.6 pounds According to survey we found that 55 % people thinks that Reticulated Python will win the fight, 40 % people thinks that Green Anaconda will win the fight and 5 % have the mix views. COLT King Cobra vs. Python VS 686 Taget Champion. The terrifying tussle lasted for 30 minutes on the street of a college campus The Colt King Cobra slips easily between these two classes of firearms and even though Colt's considers this a small frame I find it to shoot and carry much more like a medium frame gun. I believe that Kimber also saw this gap in the market when they released the 3″ K6s and perhaps Colt's sensed the same void
They gave us the King Cobra back early this year. Now Colt further develops its snake guns family introducing the King Cobra Target version, featuring a 4 1/4 barrel, adjustable rear sight, elevated fiber optic front sight, and custom wood medallion grips.Caliber is the classic and powerful .357 Magnum The Python was built on the larger I frame (assuming the new Python will be similarly framed), so the new Python should be heavier and stronger than the King Cobra. Additionally, the Python was Colt's top of the line model so it's probable that Colt will put more effort into the new Python that they do into the new King Cobra My middle-aged Python has an Elliason-style adjustable rear sight, while the new version has the same rear sight used on the new King Cobra Target revolver. Its shape reportedly allows a 30-percent increase in the cross-sectional area of the topstrap, making for a stronger frame Some of the most desirable firearms Colt has produced are its snake guns — Python, Diamondback, Cobra, Anaconda, King Cobra, Boa and Viper. The Python, the first released, is the rarest of the series. One advertisement compared the quality and elegance of the Colt Python to a 1956 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible
The Service guns would include the Cobra and Viper, The Target guns would be the Python, Diamondback and Anaconda, while the Boa and King Cobra would fit in between. Of using the hand built vs. assembly line, only two of the snake guns were truly hand built, the Python and the Diamondback Colt Python 357: Comparing the New Revolver With the Pistol From 1975. by ConcealedPatriot. That all changed in 1955 with the introduction of the Colt Python Just like the Python, it was built on their medium I frame and eventually offered it in .357 Magnum and dropped the .38 Special version in 1963. Colt Python In 1955, Colt's Firearms introduced what many believe to be the most elegant .357 Magnum revolver ever created—the Python. This example is an Ultimate Python in stainless steel and has the best features found with any Python, plus the bonus of custom grips to make it one of the nicest .357 Magnum revolvers one can find
Following the successful re-release of the Cobra in 2017, the King Cobra in 2019, and the Python just last year, this year's addition to the snake-pit is the Colt Anaconda 2021. Chambered in .44 Magnum, it's the second generation of the original Colt Anaconda that was first manufactured in the 1990s, with some improvements for modern shooters . It falls. Colt will never make a 100% clone of the old Python. If Colt can keep 95% of the original exterior looks with some modern design improvements (removable front sights, modern grips, no timing issues, no stacking/smoother DA trigger) found in the New King Cobra Target model, it would be a grand slam Fitting of its purpose, the Colt King Cobra Target pairs a notched, adjustable rear sight with a red fiber-optic front, but its littermates are considerably more basic, with a squared 0.195-wide.

The Smith in cocking single action invariably pulled the sights off the target. Besides the King Cobra Target, I'd really like to see Colt come out with a 4 ss .22lr Diamondback. Colt never made a Diamondback in ss so that would be a nice difference compared to the originals.
